Important points about the Delhi Police HCM test

  • Typing Test on Computer carries a maximum of 25 marks that are added to the final merit result (not just qualifying). Candidates who qualify in the PE&MT, and PwBD candidates who qualify in the Computer Based Examination, are called for it. The test is 10 minutes, paper-to-screen, on a passage of at least 400 words (2000 strokes) in English or 350 words (1750 strokes) in Hindi.
  • Minimum qualifying speed is 30 WPM in English and 25 WPM in Hindi -- anything lower is disqualified. English marks: 30 WPM = 10, 31-35 = 12, 36-40 = 15, 41-45 = 18, 46-50 = 21, above 50 = 25. Hindi marks: 25 WPM = 10, 26-30 = 12, 31-35 = 15, 36-40 = 18, 41-45 = 21, above 45 = 25.
  • Evaluation: words = total strokes ÷ 5, tentative speed = words ÷ 10 minutes, and every mistake costs 1 WPM. The notification's own worked example: 2000 strokes = 400 words = 40 WPM tentative; 10 mistakes; actual speed = 40 - 10 = 30 WPM, and the marks scale is read against that actual speed. This simulation scores exactly that way and shows your marks out of 25.
  • Mistakes: omission, substitution, addition, a punctuation error, a capital letter instead of a small letter (or vice versa), a gap inside a word, an extra gap between two words, and not making paragraph(s). All of these are graded as FULL errors -- there is no half-mistake concession at all (spacing, capitalization, and punctuation included), so fullErrorPenalty and halfErrorPenalty are both set to 10 (10 words = 1 WPM over the 10-minute test).
  • Backspace is permitted for corrections before you move on, unlike the stricter CAPF Head Constable Ministerial standard above -- but since every uncorrected error still costs a full WPM, correct deliberately rather than typing fast and hoping to fix it later.
  • No live highlighting: the passage does not colour the current word or mark your mistakes as you type, so you track your own position. The notification itself does not describe the exam screen; this comes from candidate/practice-resource descriptions of the real interface, so treat it as reported rather than official.

Delhi Police HCM
