Important points about the BSF HCM test

• ✓Mistake rule (from BSF's own advertisement): "10% mistakes are allowed. For excess mistakes, 10 words for each mistake will be subtracted from the total words typed out." So Net Speed = (words typed − (mistakes beyond the forgiven 10%) × 10) ÷ minutes. Worked example: 400 words typed → 40 mistakes forgiven; 45 mistakes = 5 excess → 50 words deducted → 350 effective words ÷ 10 minutes = 35 WPM. This is implemented exactly (fullErrorPenalty 10, halfErrorPenalty 5, 10% relaxation). Note this differs from CRPF/CISF/ITBP/SSB, which use 5%; some practice websites quote 5% for BSF too, but the BSF advertisement we checked says 10% -- confirm against the notification for your recruitment year.
• ✓Speed standard: 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi, which the advertisement equates to 10,500 / 9,000 KDPH at an average of 5 key depressions per word (at least 1,750 / 1,500 key depressions in the 10-minute test). Time allowed is 10 minutes. The typing test is qualifying only (a second-phase test after the written exam and physical measurement), and there is no separate accuracy percentage.
• ✓Conduct: candidates type "the given passage/matter" on computers arranged by the BSF Recruitment Centre; their own keyboard or mouse is not allowed. The advertisement does not state the passage length, whether Backspace is enabled, or whether the passage is shown on paper or on screen. Practice sources report a paper-to-screen setup (this platform's Printout Mode reproduces that) and disagree about Backspace, so this simulation leaves Backspace on. Hindi uses the Mangal font (as reported).

• ✓संचालन: उम्मीदवार बीएसएफ भर्ती केंद्र द्वारा उपलब्ध कराए गए कंप्यूटरों पर "दिया गया गद्यांश/सामग्री" टाइप करते हैं; अपना कीबोर्ड या माउस ले जाने की अनुमति नहीं है। विज्ञापन गद्यांश की लंबाई, बैकस्पेस चालू है या नहीं, या गद्यांश कागज़ पर दिया जाता है या स्क्रीन पर — यह नहीं बताता। अभ्यास स्रोत पेपर-टू-स्क्रीन सेटअप बताते हैं (इस प्लेटफ़ॉर्म का प्रिंटआउट मोड इसे दोहराता है) और बैकस्पेस पर असहमत हैं, इसलिए यह सिमुलेशन बैकस्पेस चालू रखता है। हिंदी में मंगल फ़ॉन्ट (रिपोर्ट के अनुसार) उपयोग होता है।
